Country of origin: Thailand

Nam Pla Rah fish sauce, very popular in Thailand's Isaan province, is often added to Som Tam (green papaya salad) to give it a unique flavor. However, in Northeast Thai cuisine, Pla Rah is an essential ingredient in almost every recipe from that region (e.g. hot pot, bamboo curry and spicy minced meat).
